Remember this little cabinet from my bedroom reveal?
I reckon this early 1900’s cupboard was originally some kind of kitchen dry store or food safe though I picked it up for $60 off eBay knowing it would be a perfect new house for all our shoes.
This was the simplest of makeovers. I really wanted to retain the chippy, shabby appeal of the finish and although it might look fine as is in the before pic it was actually kinda dirty and cruddy. All I did to enhance its charm was give it a thorough once-over with the palm sander. Easy! I didn’t even bother sealing it. The old paint was worn and flaky so it distressed beautifully.
To finish I simply attached a couple of new el-cheapo tear drop handles from the hardware store.
Love it. I have so much trouble sanding stuff after I have painted it. Seeing this will help me give it a go.
It looks fabulous. The one time I tried to recreate the distressed look, my set of drawers looked distressed. There’s a knack to it and, like everything, it’s a lot harder than it looks!!! x
Kristine it looks fabulous. How clever of you to use it for shoes

Kristine! It looks really great! You really pulled that whole area together…and you KNOW I love those framed maps! YOU are a clever girl indeed! MyHero has as many shoes as I do-what a weird fact of life!;>) Hugs- Diana
Kristine, Your little cabinet is wonderful and the distressing looks great. I love the maps and the vignette you created on the cabinet. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a sweet piece! You fixed her up just right!
Note to self: Put palm sander on Christmas list.
Love your distressing on that cute cupboard, Kristine! What type of sander do you have?

I am new to your website,& I LOVE your projects! I saw something on Pinterest, I think???, and cannot find it on your site. It was a makeover of a builder grade, oak cabinet. I believe it said something about gel stain? Could you please send me the link and/or info about that makeover? Thanks a million! Kat
