Do you ever feel like your creative ideas are just gonna burst right out of your brain in the form of some crazy kinda full body fire stomping dance?
That’s me at the moment.
Over the past few months my kid’s nap times have been totally outta sync, or completely non-existent, which has meant lots of time for singing nursery rhymes, building gravity-defying block towers and reading ‘There’s a Wocket in My Pocket’ (over, and over, and over, again)Â though zero time for any of my own satiating creative dabbling (and I’m beginning to get just a little bit nervous that random strangers are going to start mistaking my developing facial twitch for some kind of unorthodox flirtatious wink).
Enough already! It’s finally time to make some time.
A few weeks ago I spotted a totally plain yet perfectly practical flat-pack (knock-down) set of drawers in a The Reject Shop catalogue. It reminded me of a long forgotten furniture ‘hack’ idea that I realised I’m still really keen to try out.
I won’t give too much away just yet, though here’s the general plan…
To really release all my pent-up creative tension, I’m going for a complete, and kinda experimental, transformation. That means I’m not totally certain how the whole thing will go down just yet, though I do know it will definitely involve some White Knight Chalkboard Paint and probably some White Knight Metal Guard in Brass. I can’t wait to get started!
Now, just to find that paintbrush…
This post is sponsored by White Knight Paints.Â
All ideas and opinions are my own.
This looks interesting! I love a good transformation. Keep us informed.
BTW My kids are now 13 and 10 though there were a few years back then when I felt like I had constant ants in my pants LOL Your time will come.
Yes, I get into fire stomping mode every now and again too. That creative release is just something us DIY’ers need to soothe our souls. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the flat pack. I’m curious what you plan to use the wood for. I’m sure I’ll find out.
I love chalkboard paint projects. I’m still yet to try one though. Maybe you can motivate me…I need it!
Are you sure you really want to paint the whole thing in chalkboard? I see it with the fronts in chalkboard and the sides and top in some bright color(s)… Oh, well.
Some colour pops are definitely an option Stella. Like I mentioned in the post, it’s just my ‘plan(ish)’ and isn’t set in stone so I’m open to evolution. That said, call me boring, though I am really a neutrals girl at heart and I do plan to add more than just mere paint – we’ll see though…certainly food for thought :-) Thanks!
Can’t wait for this one. I have an old file cabinet in need of a face-lift. And thank you for the link to the Reject Shop, I have sort of forgotten about that shop and they have such great stuff.
Thanks Etta. The Reject Shop can be such a fab resource. We rarely get catalogues where I live though every now and again (for some weird reason) a The Reject Shop catalogue arrives (and I’m a little embarrassed to admit I probably get waaaay more excited than I should though there is almost always at least two cool products to either use as is or easily transform into something awesome!).
oh that hardware! and i love anything with casters.
Intercontinental twins :-)
Yay! Can’t wait to see your finished product. Can you tell us the source for the casters? I’ve been searching, but they’re ever so expensive. I’d love to know if you found some on a great budget!
Hi Lois
I’ll be sure to divulge all the product deets in the reveal post though just to let you know the castors are simply from Bunnings and cost less than $4 each – score!
Kristine
PS Of course, I’m not certain which country you’re in. If you’re not based in Australia, Bunnings is simply a hardware store.
Love chalkboard projects. Looking forward to seeing the result.
Don’t keep us in suspense too long Kristine; your projects are always awesome so I am really looking forward to seeing it. I must confess that I also get a bit excited about the Reject Shop catalogue!
Relish the time of nursery rhymes and block building; before you know it you little ones will be getting their driver’s licence and going off to Leavers Week. Even those events are almost distance memories for me as our eldest (of four) is about to turn 31 and my baby will be 23 soon. Julie
Thanks for your words of wisdom Julie :-)
I do try to remind myself often that these days are all too fleeting and need to be cherished, so as hectic as they can be the real beauty of them isn’t lost on me – special times.
Will get the reveal up as soon as I can. Hopefully early April!
“The Painted Hive” has been included in Tuesday’s Sites To See for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point many new visitors in your direction.
