A few days ago I received an email from a reader.
She was after a large-scale bird printable to partner the Heron I currently offer…
I do already provide a second bird to compliment the Heron (a Crane, from the same book by the same artist, which co-ordinates quite nicely)…
…however she was after something a little more alike and had already managed to find an illustration of a very similar bird.
Only problem was, it was merely in the form of a screenshot from Google…
So, I got researching and after a little while managed to find the exact same illustration as a free large-scale download. Yay!
Given it compliments the original Heron I offered so well, I thought it would be nice to share it here as a free printable for everyone to download and enjoy.
As always, I have edited and fully optimised the image for print and re-sized it to fit standard large poster frames (60cm x 90cm/24″ x 36″). Download it via the buttons below.
For your convenience, I’m offering three slightly different files in order to meet the upload requirements of three different online printing services; Officeworks (Australia), Office Depot (USA) and Costco (Canada).
If you intend to use an alternate printing service, I would suggest using the “Office Depot” image. Just ensure the particular document set-up specifications of the printing company you choose are met.
For complete printing instructions and further information about framing the artwork refer to my original Heron post here.
I hope you like it and find it useful.
PS I’ve been working away on a new series of free quote art and hope to share that soon too!

Would love to see a large scale quote featuring J.R.R. Tolkien “that house was… a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep”…. Thanks for always having such clever methods to transform the mundane into the marvelous!
I LOVE J.R.R Tolkien. I think one of his will be in my next release :)
Uh-oh! Now you’ll be making something special for everybody under the sun! How about a Paul McCartney photo from 1968 where he was playing the bass, you know, the old Hoffner
If you can find an un-copyrighted photo I’m happy to try Linda. I think any Paul McCartney images would be too new :)
Thank you for the beautiful images!
Thank you for being so generous with your wonderful ideas.
Aw, you’re so welcome Karen :)
These are wonderful, thank you so much for finding the sources and making them available to us!
I’m so pleased. Thank you for all your work
You’re so welcome Sandy :)
Not only amazingly creative but generous with your time too!
Aw, just wish I had more time to share cool stuff Julie. Thanks :)
Thanks so much Kristine! x
You’re so welcome Peace :)
Thank you so much for these great downloads and your instruction on getting more through the Audubon Society. I recently ordered these first two bird prints, 24×36 on upgraded paper with foamcore mounting using a 50% off coupon from Office Depot. The total came to just under $45.
I had two large bamboo style frames purchased at a yard sale for $5 each and switched out the art with these bird prints. They are absolutely gorgeous!! I just ordered two more smaller bird prints for frames that were given to me. So, again, thank you so much for generous sharing of such wonderful information.
Yay! This is exactly what I love to hear Sheila – it’s just the best feeling to know I am actually helping others decorate their homes beautifully on a budget :)
Kristine,
Thank you for sharing the large heron images. This is just what I have been looking for
to go in my living room.
Thanks for the downloads and the instructions, can’t wait to get started.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Keela Hess
You’re so welcome Keela :)
Great thanks!
Beautiful.. thanks so much for sharing!!
Has anyone ever tried to have them scaled down to 16×20 when printing or will that not work? I adore these but need them smaller for my space! 😩😩
They can be scaled down though as 16×20 is a different aspect ratio to my original size of 24×36 some cropping or distortion would occur. 24×36 is 2:3 ratio whereas 16×20 is 4:5 ratio. Could you possibly use frames which maintain the 2:3 ratio? Such as 16×24 or 12×18? Otherwise, you can certainly crop them however it would mean cutting off a fair portion of the base.
Cheers
Thanks so much..I’ll give that a try!!
This is a perfect activity for my Caronacation….l am about to lose my mind!
Hello, I’m struggling to download the images of the storks. In the UK…
Love this website. Thanks for sharing.
How did you go Dawn?
Can you share where you got the frames you have the crane prints in, please?
Sorry, they are just digital frames I’ve used as a visual example.
Hi Kristine, I too am looking for a match for my Great Blue Heron by artist Dale C. Thompson 1984. Also my picture came from a calendar dated April 1987. The picture measures 11 x 15 1/2. Would there be anyway you might have something that would match it?

These are beautiful! I am printing at Office Depot, and I am trying to choose the correct paper: satin, canvas? Foamboard? Can you give your opinion on what looks best?
It really comes down to personal preference and budget constraints. I like to use thick matte paperstock from the printing company I generally go with as I like the lack of sheen and the cost is good. For more special pieces canvas or peel and stick paper is nice, and thicker options like foamboard are ideal when you need the print to be stiff.
These are so Wonderful! Thank you very much for sharing them we all of us.
I just moved into my 1st home and my walls feel so barren and paintings can be quite expensive. However, I suspect now that I have found your website those walls won’t be empty for long! <3 I am going to get them printed off and on my walls ASAP!
Thanks so much for letting me know you love the free printables. They will look amazing on the walls of your first home! How exciting for you!
Is there anyway to adjust the size? I have the perfect frame for this but it’s a 22 x 28 😩 please help!!!
22 x 28 uses a different aspect ratio to the original image so you would need to either crop or distort it for it to fit.
I love these! Can you add a fourth bird to this collection? Trying to put 2 pairs together. Thank you so much 😊
So glad you like them! I’m a bit busy with work at the moment so don’t have time to put a fourth together right now sorry. You may be able to find something if you have a look on Etsy.
